Bullets in 10-pt dousing

Months after the competition was forced into limbo during the COVID-19 pandemic, netball has returned to Broome with a bang, with teams flocking to the indoor courts at Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre.

As the Broome Netball Association waits on the shade structure to be completed for the centre’s outdoor courts, the fixtures for the senior competition were split over two nights.

It all kicked off on Monday night when Broome Bullets went up against the Djugun Flames.

Although the Bullets managed to build a lead early in the contest, the Flames were quick to react and did not stray too far behind.

The even contest saw the Bullets hold on late in the opening term to lead 13-11.

The second quarter saw plenty of back-and-forth between the Bullets and Flames, with the Flames eventually taking the lead.

The second half of the contest saw the Bullets step into a new gear as Tahlia Knox and Sophie Moore began building a solid lead.

In the midst of the fast-paced contest, it seemed the Flames were struggling to convert each time they intercepted the ball, with the Bullets leading 33-27 at the final change.

The final term had a similar pattern as the Bullets continued to extend their lead. Although the Flames continued fighting hard to try to make a comeback, the Bullets held on to win 39-29.

Elsewhere in division one, Old Girls held off Cable Beach in a 29-26 thriller.

Meanwhile in division two, Towns Blue smashed Broome Bullets 27-6, Cable Beach defeated Towns Red 35-22, Cable Beach Red held off Firebirds 13-11, and Djugun Flames beat Broome Bulls 39-32.

In division three, Djugun Flames defeated Pindan Tigers 45-13, Scrambled Legs beat Broome Bullets 23-12, and Cable Beach beat Broome Bulls 23-17.
