Broome Jets defeat South Hedland Cougars in pre-season North West Rugby League friendly

The Broome Jets have defeated the South Hedland Cougars in a pre-season North West Rugby League friendly, coming back in the second half after a rocky start to win 34-28.

Patrick Marshall scored the most tries for the Jets with two, while Matty Corpus showed off his kicking accuracy, slotting all five of the Jets’ field goals.

Gareth Preece, Tom Hine and Rory Wahapa also each scored a try for the Jets

James Ahmat led the Cougars’ try scorers with two, while Mathias Levi scored a try and booted all of the Cougars’ four field goals.

Jimmy Kenon-Mia and Nathan Swayne, one each, rounded out the Cougars’ try scorers.

The Cougars dominated in the first half before the Jets came back fighting in the second, outrunning the Cougars and making a number of easy tries in the opening minutes.

The under 12s boys also went head to head, with a few girls mixed in, on Saturday afternoon with the South Hedland Cougars defeating Broome Jets 32-16.

Declan Rockett kicked three field goals for the Cougars.

Brooklyn Bennet (two) led the Cougars’ try scorers, with Mayson Tohns, Hezekian Ulduldam, Vitti and Deziah Steele scoring one try each.

Aston Burges and Frank Garffer were standout players for the Jets, each scoring a field goal and a try, with Graffer managing a second.

Jesse Wood rounded out the try scorers for the Jets with one.
