Simmering tensions between rival bikies is being probed by gang crime squad detectives as a possible motive behind the attempted home invasion in Koongamia.

The West Australian understands that a man known to frequent the Koongamia home is the president of the Nomads bikie gang. He was not at the house when the attempted home invasion in Meelah Way occurred.

But a woman and her baby were caught up in the shocking incident – which police say was targeted.

Police say several armed men - who themselves have suspected bikie links - tried to force their way into the home about 7.40pm but fled just as police were racing to the scene.

On Friday police released CCTV footage showing as many as six men, some of whom can be seen carrying weapons.

Police now want anyone who recognises the men in the footage to come forward.

“About 7.40pm, a number of men armed with various weapons including what was believed to be a firearm and axe, attempted to gain entry to the home via a rear door,” police said in a statement earlier this week.

“A woman, who was home at the time, contacted police and the men left without gaining entry.

“It is believed the men involved have OMCG (outlaw motorcycle gang) links and the incident was targeted.”
