An RSPCA WA inspector was called to the grim discovery at Piccadilly Dam near the corner of Throssell Street on Wednesday morning.

A vet examination revealed the black Staffy X had been deceased for several days, and likely dead before being put in the suitcase.

The RSPCA said the dog had a prolapsed uterus and had recently had a litter of puppies.
