Work to relocate the Albany terminus of the Bibbulmun Track and Munda Biddi Trail to the Alison Hartman Gardens on York Street will begin in 10 days.

Construction will start on April 19 to realign the southern terminus of the two trails from Proudlove Parade near the old visitor centre to York Street, giving hikers a new start or finish line in the CBD.

The Bibbulmun Track stretches 1000km from Kalamunda to Albany, and the Munda Biddi Trail is the longest off-road cycling track of its kind in the world which bring thousands of visitors to the Great Southern each year.

Set to be finished by July, the new terminus will feature new amenities such as decking, bike racks, seating and signage.

In April last year, councillors voted to adopt a concept design developed by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions to move the southern terminus of the two trails in an earmarked $100,000 tourism project.
