Vacant Brunswick Road home destroyed by suspicious early morning fire as Albany detectives investigate cause

Police are investigating a suspicious fire that has destroyed a vacant house on Brunswick Road in Albany and took nearly two hours to extinguish in the early hours of Saturday morning. Emergency services received a call at about 2.46am on Saturday, reporting a structure fire at a property in Port Albany. A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said three appliances were sent to the blaze and crews arrived to find the home fully engulfed by flames. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze by 4.43am and then handed the scene over to WA police. Albany detectives are calling for public assistance for information into the fire at the residential premises. “About 2.50am, emergency services were called to a fire at a vacant property on Brunswick Road,” Albany detectives said in a social media post. “The property was extensively damaged prior to the fire being extinguished by DFES. “There were no reports of injuries.” DFES also confirmed it did not appear that anyone was inside the home at the time of the fire.
