Strong set of trials to kick-start new season at Albany Racing Club at Percy Spencer Racecourse

The first official set of trials in the Great Southern will be run at Albany Racing Club tomorrow.

A total of 52 horses have been nominated for eight trials to be run on the course proper.

Leading Albany trainer Steve Wolfe has nominated 17 runners, while Roy Rogers has 14 entered.

Promising types Eurasia, Mood Goddess, and Convalesce headline Wolfe’s gallopers set to trial.

All horses nominated come out of local stables, including one from Rebecca Shanks who has moved to Albany for the season.

There will be two trials over 600m while the final trial is purely for two-year-olds, with Rogers having three unraced horses competing against each other over 1000m.

The first meeting of the Great Southern Racing season will be held in Mt Barker on November 1.

Other trainers that will be involved in trials at Percy Spencer Racecourse are Neil Lee, Samantha Faithfull, Paul Hunter, Alan McNamara Jr, Rebecca Wallrodt, Leanne Howlett and Des Attwell.

Meanwhile exciting three-year-old Watch Me Dance will return to racing this Saturday in the Listed Belgravia Stakes (1200m) at Ascot.

The Wolfe-trained filly will form part of a two-pronged Great Southern attack in the feature race along with Dark Assault from the Rogers yard.

Watch Me Dance is yet to finish outside the top three in her seven career starts winning three races, including the Group 3 WA Sires last season.

Regular rider Shaun McGruddy will take the reins of Watch Me Dance from barrier four.

Dark Assault is still a maiden after 10 career starts but has earned close to $100,000 in prizemoney after placing in the Listed Perth Stakes and Group 2 Karrakatta Plate.

Jason Brown will ride the colt for the first time and they will start from barrier three.

The race will be run at 3.30pm.
