The timeframe for nominations for Albany’s most prestigious sporting awards has been extended to drive more applications for the annual extravaganza.

Nominations will now close at 9am on April 8 for the Wellington and Reeves Albany Sportsperson of the Year Awards.

The extension gives extra time for sporting bodies to nominate local sporting heroes in several categories, though organisers are especially after names for the senior and masters’ awards.

Last year’s winner of the flagship sportsperson of the year title was volleyball player Ryan Slater.

Muay Thai champion Shawah Jin was the senior winner, with hockey player Ben Blechynden scooping the junior award.

Footballer Brett Hall took the masters’ gong.

Nominations can be made via the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre website or Facebook page.

The awards will be presented on April 23.
