Homicide squad and forensics officers swarm Spencer Park home as investigations continue into woman’s death

A swarm of police forensics and detectives continue to comb over an Albany residence on Monday after a 69-year-old woman was found dead on Sunday afternoon. The major investigation began late on Sunday and will enter a third day on Tuesday, as police hunt for clues into the circumstances of the woman’s death. The set of units on Burville Street in Spencer Park remained under police guard on Monday afternoon, with tape cordoning off the building and stretched across the front driveway, and dozens of officers scouring the site. By noon Monday, homicide squad detectives had arrived on the scene alongside a big team of forensics officers, bringing with them several unmarked cars and a forensics van full of equipment that they set up in the front yard of the units. Detectives were seen speaking to people in neighbouring residences and passing cars, with forensics officers mostly out of view inside the premises, conducting their investigations. Emergency services were first alerted to the incident about 3.10pm on Sunday afternoon, with reports of a woman found unresponsive. Police say that when crews arrived at Burville Street, they found the 69-year-old already dead inside one of the homes. An update early on Monday morning revealed a 50-year-old man, believed to have been known to the woman, was assisting with police enquiries. The set of units was put under police guard on Sunday night, as investigations began to determine the cause of the woman’s death.
