Albany Caledonian reserves provided the shock of the round as the men’s Sponsors Cup gathered momentum on Saturday.
The Calies’ second string beat Phoenix’s top guns after a penalty shoot-out to progress to the last four along with Rovers, Polonia and the Caledonian league side.
Honours were even at 2-2 at full-time, but the spot kicks went the way of the underdogs 3-2, with Noah Dunham striking the winning conversion.
In normal time, a depleted Phoenix side, who played with 10 men throughout, struck first through Cameron Dekker, but Snowbet Aung levelled for the reserves 10 minutes into the second half.
Jason Bosch put Phoenix in front again but Josh D’Aprile equalised to force the shoot-out.
D’Aprile, Dylan Cook and Dunham converted for Calies, while only Callum Postmus and Samuel Bosch were on target for Phoenix.
In the clash between two top-tier sides, Polonia walloped Bayswater 5-0.
It took 56 minutes for Caelen Lambe to break the deadlock, but once he scored, the goals came tumbling in.
He grabbed his second in the 67th minute, with Escher Nash adding the third two minutes later.
It was Nash again for the fourth, and then Kyron Figliomeni popped home the fifth, four minutes from time.
Phoenix reserves found Rovers too hot to handle as the senior side romped to a 10-2 victory.
Andreas Bouzinekis grabbed five of their tally, while Bradley Chapman contributed a hat-trick.
Jade Swadkins and an own goal completed the rout.
Josh Houweling and Vaughn Schoof scored late consolations for Phoenix.
Calies’ league side were 7-1 winners over Polonia reserves thanks to trebles from Fraser Grant and Ryan Harper, plus an effort from Taylor Clay.
