Five teams eye finals in men’s A-grade competition with just one round to play in tight contest

With just one round remaining in the Albany Basketball Association men’s A-grade competition, five teams are vying for four spots in the finals.

Ambassadors and Barking Owls sit on equal points at the top of the standings after round 15 victories, while Denmark Magpies, Infernos and Sonics all share the same points heading into the final round.

After recording a 73-49 victory over the Raiders under-18 development squad, Ambassadors remain on top of the ladder.

Caleb Carman led the way with 27 points and Stewart Davies added 18 in the 24-point win while Jordi O’Neill toiled hard with 23 for Raiders.

Barking Owls remain in the hunt to finish on top after prevailing 60-53 over Sonics, who dropped to fifth spot as a result.

Justin Benson starred in the win with 26 points and was well supported by O’Neill with 16 points.

Denmark Magpies jumped to third place after a comfortable 72-44 win over Railways Tigers, led by Luke Wilson and Reagan Hutchinson.

Wilson dropped 24 points and Hutchinson hit four long bombs for his 20 points while Kane Shephard was the best for Railways with 20 points.

Infernos also have 33 points after they defeated The Sharks, 64-49.

In the ABA women’s A-grade competition, top two sides Crystal Blues and Valkyries recorded convincing wins.

Ladder leaders Crystal Blues defeated Raiders, 79-29, as Isabella De Giambattista (27 points), Casey Griffiths (20) and Telikah Collins (15) did the damage.

Valkyries finished emphatic 63-33 winners over Sonics with Charlotte Edwards top scoring with 13 points while Narelle Humphries added 12.
