Denmark’s Isi Campbell fell narrowly short of victory in round two of the WA Junior Surf Titles held in contrasting conditions at Trigg Beach at the weekend.

What started out as small surf quickly changed for Sunday’s finals as tropical cyclone Seroja moved south bringing drizzling rain.

Campbell was competing in the under-16 cadet girls division which went down to the wire but the talented youngster fell agonisingly short as the final siren sounded.

Augusta’s Ruby Berry claimed victory in the final with her two-wave total of 13.07 from a possible 20 enough to edge out Campbell who scored 12.84 to finish in second place.

Margaret River’s Willow Hardy (12.33) was close behind in third and Kaleisha Launders was fourth with a total of six.

After two rounds in the under-16 category, Campbell sits in third place with 3060 points behind Berry (3720 points) and Hardy (3460).

The third and final event of the WA titles will be held in Geraldton in July, to determine who will represent the State team at the Australian Junior Surfing Titles to be held in Queensland later this year.
