Albany Surf Life Saving Club open day and come-and-try session a major hit to start their new season

A strong crowd turned out for the Albany Surf Life Saving Club opening day that featured a come-and-try session on Sunday to start their new season.

The club open day welcomed all new and past members to sign up for a packed 2020-21 season while giving new members the chance to try out activities involved in surf lifesaving.

A two-hour come-and-try session was held in the morning before a registrations timeslot, which has also gone online this year to avoid the rush to sign up and has been open since October 12.

ASLSC president Sarah Bowles said the opening day was very successful.

“There were two objectivities at the open day, with the come-and-try providing an opportunity for community members, particularly adults, to come and try our activities,” she said.

“We also gave them the opportunity to visit the club and talk to members about what we do and how to get involved.

“We had really good numbers from all ages attend, lots of people not only wanting to have a go but really interested in finding out about who we are and what we really do.

The ASLSC is keen to run more come-and-try days in the future.

“We are super excited for the season ahead, ASLSC really does have something for everyone and caters for all ages,” Bowles said.

“Teams have been doing some great work putting new and exciting comprehensive programs together across all ages in surf sports, lifesaving, education and events.

“This season is going to be jam-packed for both members and the community.

“We will be still delivering our iconic community events that are highly valued by both the community and members such as the New Year’s Eve Swim, Albany Harbour Swim and Surf Craft Challenge.”
