An occult podcaster who stabbed his fiancee to death when he was coming down from a drug-fuelled trip to Sydney has learnt his fate.
Tobias Nuttall, 33, will spend at least 18 years in jail having pleaded guilty to the murder of Alisha Lauren Hendren-Krippner, 30, at her home on Reid St, Bassendean, in August last year.
The couple had just returned to Perth from a three-day trip to Sydney and they consumed meth at their hotel the night before the killing.
The Supreme Court of WA was told the pair had been an intimate relationship for about six months, but it had started to deteriorate.
There had been conflict on their trip that escalated within 30 minutes of returning to Ms Hendren-Krippner’s home.
Nuttall sent a series of text messages to his father when he arrived back in Perth saying he just got back from Sydney and what “should have been divine was hell.”
“I am in a fairly evil situation, I have encountered narcissism at a level that is difficult to fathom,” a message he sent read.
“I apologise for sounding cryptic I want to talk when no other ears are listening.
“Please this is not a vent, this is me finding a private corner to impart these messages.”
Within about half an hour of returning home, Ms Hendren-Krippner was dead.
A court was told Nuttall was in a fit of rage when he stabbed Hendren-Krippner about nine times in the neck and torso.
He claimed they got into an argument about the state of her home the day before a rent inspection, and she had struck him in the back, when he turned around she was brandishing a knife.
Nuttall claimed he tackled his partner to the ground and took the knife, later admitting to emergency services that he stabbed her.
He called triple-0 but immediately hung up, and called back later saying he inflicted injuries to his partner.
Ms Hendren-Krippner was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital, but could not be saved.
Police found a 25cm dagger with blood stains in the home.
A victim impact statement read to the court on behalf the victim’s father Kelvin Krippner said that his entire world shattered when he received the call about his daughter.
He said his daughter’s death left a stillness in their home and family gatherings now felt empty, remembering her as someone who was full of life, kind and compassionate.
“She had dreams,” the statement read.
“All of that was stolen in an instant.”
The court was told Nuttall had given various accounts about what happened and that his partner was holding a knife before he attacked her.
But Justice Amanda Forrester did not accept his claims, saying there was no evidence there had been abuse in the relationship or that his partner had tried to control him.
Justice Forrester said she was unable to determine exactly what happened when they returned that day, but there was no one else that witnessed coercive control or violence in their relationship.
“I do not accept you acted in response to coercive control,” she said.
Ms Forrester said that text messages Nuttall sent to his father showed there was hostility and toxicology reports showed they had consumed meth.
She said it was apparent Nuttall attacked his partner in an uncontrolled matter.
“You have not only taken Alisha’s life and robbed her of a future that was bright, but you have been responsible for shattering her family, they will never recover from her loss and the violent manner in which she was taken,” she said.
“Violence is never an acceptable response to relational conflict, too many women die at the hands of a man who loses control and lashes out.”
