When Leftfield Coffee Roasters’ Kamran Nowduschani isn’t blending beans, he’s out on the road in his new Subaru Forester which does double duty for work and play as he dreams about the latest sporty Land Rover Defender.

What are you driving and why did you buy it?

A current Subaru Forester, which I love. I had a Forester before that I gave to my nephews at about 170,00km and it just kept on going. The new model has a lot of safety features with a luxurious and spacious interior that fits massive amounts of stuff in the back as required for shopping, deliveries or holidays. It has AWD, Japanese-built quality, reliability and it’s very good value.

I love the design of the new Land Rover Defender, especially the two-door Defender 90. It’s boxy and heavy, yet sleek and detailed, rugged and refined at the same time. I just want to jump into it.

What was your first car?

A shiny new Ford Laser TX3 in red with tinted windows. I loved that car, it was so zippy and fun to drive. It was a manual, which made it more fun. Although it didn’t have air-conditioning, it had a great stereo. I sold it when I moved to Melbourne for work.

What annoys you most about other motorists?

A lot of drivers think that merging lanes are a great opportunity to overtake. Even though they are behind you, instead of smoothly merging, they will accelerate hard to try and push in front. Tailgating at all speeds is another major issue.

What’s your favourite driving music?

I love my digital radio, so I tend to flick stations between ABC Jazz, ABC Classic and ABC Perth. It depends on my mood but jazz is my favourite. The Forester has a Harman Kardon stereo that makes it a real pleasure to listen to music.
