Two Holden muscle cars are tipped to fetch more than $1 million combined at an auction of 120 American, European and Australian motoring classics.

In what could be some of the lowest-kilometre models of their kind, a “panorama silver” 1988 VL Walkinshaw SS Group A and a burgundy 1990 VN Commodore SS Group A are going under the hammer at Lloyds next Saturday, with bidding already up to $225,000 for the VL Walkinshaw and $215,000 for the VN Commodore.

Group A cars were limited-edition models designed for touring car racing and rallying.

“Who knows what these cars will sell for, they are already fetching well into six figures due to their limited build and extremely low kilometres,” Lloyds chief operations officer Lee Hames said.

“But we must also remember the effect of the Holden closure in Australia where we have seen a trend of records broken since.

“When selecting cars for their potential to increase in value it is important to tick several boxes, namely, rarity, heritage and desirability. The VN Commodore SS Group A up for auction ticks all those boxes.”

It’s number 180 of only 302 built, has never been registered, includes all original paperwork and has only 182km on the clock.

Tom Walkinshaw established Holden Special Vehicles in 1988 after Holden’s widely publicised split with Peter Brock.

The first model offered by his new performance-tuning operation was the radical SS Group A based on the then VL Commodore.

It is number 439 of 750 built, with a five-litre V8 engine, 1479km on the clock and a distinctive body kit with built-up boot-lid spoiler.

Also being auctioned are a 2017 Holden HSV GTS 30th Anniversary Edition, with bidding already at $126,000, a 2014 Holden GTS Maloo that’s sitting on $97,500 and a 1970 Holden HG Monaro GTS coupe, which reached $105,556 with seven days to go.
