Skoda has revealed local pricing and details for the new-generation Octavia, now available in Australian showrooms.

The mid-sized passenger car can be had with a choice of two petrol engines across three trim levels.

Once again buyers have the option of a sedan or, for an extra $1300, a wagon.

This makes it one of just three mainstream medium cars still available as a wagon, along with the Mazda6 and Volkswagen Passat.

In fact, the sub-$60,000 medium car segment as a whole is now sparsely populated, with the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry the only others willing to persist despite the segment’s slumping sales.

Still, the Octavia has been a winner for Skoda, keeping sales and interest growing in the years before the Czech brand was able to introduce more popular SUV models.

With a manual transmission no longer offered, entry to the range has risen from $24,890 to $30,390 plus on roads for the 110TSI Ambition.

Given Skoda’s recent focus on value for money though, there is quite a bit of kit for the money: 18-inch alloys, LED headlights and tail lights with dynamic indicators, Skoda’s Virtual Cockpit, a 10-inch infotainment touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, electric tailgate, an umbrella in the driver’s door, two tablet holders on the front seat head rests and more.

Standard safety kit includes adaptive cruise control, pedestrian and cyclist detection and eight airbags.

An extra $4500 gets into the Style and adds matrix LED headlights, sat nav, park assist, cornering fog lights and other perks.

Both the Ambition and Style get a 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The hotted up Octavia RS returns, armed with a 2.0-litre turbo four pot sending 180kW and 370Nm to the wheels via a seven-speed wet clutch auto.

It also adds 19-inch wheels, red brake calipers, black styling highlights, a 15mm lower sport chassis, carbon and Alcantara trim elements, digital radio, 10 airbags and more.

Those wanting more performance can add a comprehensive $6500 RS Premium pack which includes adaptive chassis control, a head-up display, premium 12-speaker Canton sound system, heated front and rear seats, park assist, massage function for driver's seat, three-zone climate control, mechanical rear window sunblinds (standard on wagons) and more.

Other options for the Style include a $3200 Tech Pack (adaptive chassis control, head-up display, Canton sound system, digital radio, three-zone climate control) and a $5800 Luxury Pack (leather upholstery, blind-spot detection with side assist, traffic jam assist, heated front and rear seats and more).
