Pop star Pink has publicly shut down rumours that she and husband Carey Hart have separated but insiders have revealed what is really going on.

The singer, 46, appeared visibly irritated in a recent Instagram video after reports circulated claiming she and the former motocross champion had ended their two-decade marriage.

“So I was just alerted to the fact that I’m separated from my husband. I didn’t know,” she said in the clip.

“Thank you for letting me know. Would you also like to tell our children? My 14-year-old and my 9-year-old are also unaware.”

Despite the strong public denial, a source has told Page Six the couple has been discussing the possibility of separating while they work out the logistics of their future.

“They haven’t worked out the technicalities of how it will work with the kids and where they’ll each be based full time,” the source said.

But according to the insider, the reports of their separation came earlier than the couple expected.

“They weren’t ready to have it out there just yet... Pink just wants to protect the kids, which is entirely fair.”

The pair have recently relocated to New York City from their 80-hectares vineyard estate in California’s Santa Ynez Valley so their daughter Willow can pursue theatre opportunities on Broadway.

While the move might make the couple appear closer than ever publicly, the source said the reality may be more complex.

“In a lot of ways they’re going to appear closer than ever right now, but it’s because they’re finalising plans for how they’ll successfully co-parent and uncouple,” the source said.

“They want to be a united front for their kids, and so they are staying very close to each other right now, but it’s literally because they are laying the groundwork for what comes next.”

Over the weekend the family appeared happy and united when they attended the Broadway musical & Juliet with their children Willow, 14, and Jameson, 9.

Pink even shared a photo from the outing on her Instagram Stories, and the family stayed afterwards to greet the cast.

Relationship timeline

Pink, whose real name is Alecia Moore, first met Hart at the 2001 X Games in Philadelphia.

After dating on and off for several years, they married in 2006.

Two years later the pair announced they had separated.

But they remained on friendly terms, with Hart even appearing in the music video for Pink’s hit single So What, which was inspired by the breakup.

By the spring of 2009, the couple revealed they had reconciled.

“We’re rebuilding,” Hart told People at the time.

“Sometimes you have to take a couple of steps backward to move forward.”

Pink later revealed they had attended both individual therapy and couples counselling during that period.

‘We don’t need each other’

In 2023, Pink offered rare insight into their unconventional relationship dynamic.

“He and I are independent to a fault. That’s probably why we’ve stayed together so long, because we can live completely separately and then be together,” she said.

“We don’t need each other. We choose each other.”
