SPACEY JANE

The beloved WA indie rock band have been making waves ever since they emerged on the scene in 2016. After taking more than a year off from live performances, the quartet returned to the stage at The Rosemount Hotel on January 14.

This gig was special, as the rockers turned back to their roots for an intimate show announced on social media the day before.

The sold-out show was also a chance for Spacey Jane to preview a new single at the time, All The Noise, as well as another song that forms part of their latest album, If That Makes Sense, released in May.

Their energy onstage was also next level, from jumping around the stage, hair flicking and pulling out classic rockstar moves.

DRAKE

The Canadian rapper kicked off the first show of his The Anita Max Win Australian tour at RAC Arena on February 4 after his last visit to the country in 2017.

There was a lot of hype around Drake’s performance with many wondering if he would address his ongoing beef with fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar.

Drake makes this list for multiple outfit changes, a stacked set list of 43 songs, impressive stage production and getting into the mosh to interact with fans.

While the concert was career-spanning, it was also laced with nostalgia, surprising the crowd by bringing back Love Me, a track he hadn’t performed since 2015—coincidentally the last time he played Perth a decade ago.

KYLIE

On February 15 at RAC Arena, Australia’s pop princess proved to Perth fans that she remains as mesmerising as she is timeless as she performed the first concert of her global Tension Tour.

Not only did she begin the show singing from a perch suspended within a diamond-shaped strobe light, she delivered old and new hits spanning across decades.

She also handpicked 10-year-old Savannah Ceric to come up on stage with her as she sang Where the Wild Roses Grow and gifted her a white rose.

The high-octane performance ended with an emotional touch as Kylie thanked her fans for being with her in her younger years – a time she claimed she did not know what she was doing.

KATY PERRY

While Katy Perry copped a lot of flack during her tour run after her Blue Origin space flight that extended to criticism of The Lifetimes Tour’s themes, there was no doubt she impressed her Perth KatyCats at RAC Arena on June 22.

The pop queen didn’t hold back in delivering the spectacle crowds were expecting, ensuring every facet of the show went the extra mile to impress.

From riding a gargantuan mechanical butterfly across the arena to being propelled through the air on aerial lines — all while belting out songs — Perry confirmed her status as a seasoned pop icon.

She mesmerised with epic visuals, a jaw-dropping set design and multiple costume changes while also taking time to connect with fans by accepting posters and gifts from the crowd, including a pack of Tim Tams she shared with two young fans on stage.

RUFUS DU SOL

Rufus Du Sol’s show at RAC Arena on November 7 proved once again why they are one of the most celebrated Aussie electronic dance groups.

Over the course of the two-hour spectacle, RDS performed a stellar discography that was impossible not to dance to, complete with a stunning light and visuals display.

It is also worth mentioning the incredible cameraman who expertly live filmed parts of the concert that were projected onto the large screens above the stage.

RDS proved there really was no place Perth fans would rather be as the arena exuded happiness in response to the group’s ability to conjure feelings of euphoria.

AC/DC

The legendary Aussie band hadn’t performed in Perth for 10 years so when the rockers took to the stage at Optus Stadium on December 4 they gave fans a night of old school rock ‘n’ roll they won’t forget.

With the only original member Angus Young still standing, the band shook the ground inside the stadium as they played anthems like Thunderstruck and Hells Bells and a couple from the five-year-old album Power Up.

After more than two hours on stage featuring 21 songs and a 30 minute masterclass in guitar showmanship from Young, it was clear the band wasn’t anywhere near ready for retirement.

An honourable mention goes out to fellow rock band Metallica who also brought the house down at the stadium on November 1.
