Casting for George Miller’s long-awaited Mad Max spin-off has been revealed and Chris Hemsworth couldn’t be happier to land a role.

The prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road released in 2015 will see Furiosa return to the post-apocalyptic desert.

Starring Emma’s Anya Taylor-Joy, Watchmen’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Hemsworth, Deadline has reported that Warner Bros was in “advanced development” with the film.

Australian film director Miller’s prequel is based on Charlize Theron’s Fury road character Imperator Furiosa.

Hemsworth shared a screenshot of Variety’s casting article on Instagram, writing that the franchise meant the world to him growing up and a big reason he got into acting.

“Pretty damn fired up to be a part of a franchise that meant the world to me as a kid growing up in Australia,” Hemsworth wrote on Instagram.

“Mad Max was the pinnacle and a huge reason why I got into the business of telling stories.”

“The fact that I’ll have the honor of not only being directed by its original visionary in George Miller but also take part in Furiosa’s origin story is incredibly exciting.”

“Huge respect to George, Mel, Charlize, Tom and all the cast and crew who helped build this epic world.”

“I’ll do my best to continue the tradition of cinematic badassery”.

Taylor-Joy will play a younger version of Furiosa in the film which was written before Fury Road finished filming.

In May, Miller revealed that he had been searching for a young actor to fill the role and considered de-ageing Theron if the technology was better.

“For the longest time, I thought we could just use CG de-ageing on Charlize, but I don’t think we’re nearly there yet,” Miller told The New York Times.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will also star in the upcoming film.

Abdul-Mateen II recently won an Emmy Award for his performance in the American superhero drama Watchmen.

Miller will direct, co-write and produce the film with his long time producing partner Doug Mitchell and it will be produced by Miller’s Australian-based Kennedy Miller Mitchell banner with Warner Bros.
