The 10th-anniversary instalment of the Perth International Jazz Festival swings into WA this week, with more than 30 events across 10 days and 18 venues, from the Perth CBD to Busselton.

Among the interstate and international stars set to descend on WA are Finnish pianist and composer Kari Ikonen, Sydney jazz trio Brekky Boy, and Israeli-born, US-based pianist Tal Cohen.

Local artists include popular singers Libby Hammer and Ali Bodycoat, saxophonist Jayden Blockley, and bassist Kate Pass.

Other highlights of the program include the free Jazz Picnic in the Park at Hyde Park on November 6, and the November 4 opening night event at The Rechabite featuring Vanessa Perica and the ANJO Youth Big Band, Meretrio with Heinrich von Kalnein and We Made A Thing!. Plus don’t miss Grooves N’ Brews on November 6, a rooftop party at a secret city location featuring Fremantle’s Hard Jazz DJs.

Established in 2012, PIJF is the brainchild of the late associate professor Graham Wood, and was conceived as a means of promoting jazz music to the wider community, including overseas fans.

PIJF general manager Richard Evans says he hopes to make the event a destination for all jazz lovers in WA and beyond.

“Along with our strong program of international and local artists, we have some stunning new locations that will make Perth the place to be in early November,” he says.

The Perth International Jazz Festival is on from November 4-6 (Perth) and November 12-13 (South West).
