Dairy milk that stays fresh in the fridge for two months might seem a bit on the nose to some people, but it's a scientific reality thanks to Australian research.

A Queensland company has been granted federal government funding to help build a plant for its world-first patented technology to process milk with a longer shelf life.

The Wholey Milk Company says on its website that the technology "is the biggest breakthrough in the global milk industry since pasteurisation in 1864".

"One hundred per cent natural fresh milk, minimum 60 days fresh chilled shelf life, no additives or preservatives, nutritionally superior, retains its natural colour and taste like its straight from the cow."

The milk's longevity opens new export potential for Australia.

Parent company Naturo is among nine businesses to share in $4.4 million from Canberra.

"This grant will help the company build a pilot plant in Queensland to create their product and then export it to the world, while also paving the way for a full scale facility to be built in regional Tasmania," federal Industry, Science and Technology Minister Karen Andrews said.

Other projects to receive funding include a solar lighting product, smartphone scanning technology which uses cloud-hosted software to create custom hearing aids, and artificial intelligence for professional development.
