One of South Perth’s trendiest restaurants is preparing to close its doors next month, with a new Asian-inspired concept to take over the space just days later.

Ludo will officially shut on June 14, marking the end of an era for the restaurant that has been operating under The Station on Mends Street for just two-and-a-half years.

Opened in December 2023 by successful hospitality group Nokturnl, Ludo gained industry recognition, building a loyal following and helping shape the evolving culinary scene in South Perth.

The new Asian-inspired restaurant is already in the works, with the replacement venue expected to open on June 19, just five days after Ludo closes its doors.

Nokturnl group are known for their Asian cuisine, a category the group has not only embraced but helped define, delivering some of Perth’s most celebrated and awarded Asian dining experiences.

The group are known for Tonic + Ginger at The Old Synagogue, Lotus at The Beaufort and KARLA at Stories.

The closure comes as founding head chef Ludo Mulot steps away from his role, prompting the group to reimagine the venue.

“Ludo has been a really meaningful part of our journey,” Nokturnl co-founder Ross Drennan said.

“We’re incredibly proud of what the team has created and the experience we’ve delivered – it’s a venue that’s left a lasting mark on both our team and the South Perth dining scene. We’re equally excited to evolve the space into something new that celebrates our passion as a group.”

While details of the new restaurant remains under wraps, Noktural says the direction will lean into the group’s already strong reputation for Asian cuisine.

More details about the new venue will be revealed in the upcoming weeks.

Final bookings at Ludo are now open.
