LABOUR FORCE DATA FOR AUGUST:

* Unemployment rate - 4.5 per cent versus 4.6 per cent in July

* Underemployment rate (employed people seeking additional work) - 9.3 per cent versus 8.3 per cent

* Employment fell 146,300

* Full-time positions fell 68,000

* Part-time employment fell 78,200

* Participation rate (people working or looking for work): 65.2 per cent versus 66 per cent

* Monthly hours worked in all jobs fell 3.7 per cent

STATE UNEMPLOYMENT RATES:

NSW - 4.9 per cent in July versus 4.5 per cent in July

VIC - 4.1 per cent versus 4.4 per cent

QLD - 5.3 per cent versus 5.2 per cent

SA - 5.0 per cent versus 4.7 per cent

WA - unchanged at 4.6 per cent

TAS - 5.5 per cent versus 4.6 per cent

NT - 3.4 per cent versus 4.5 per cent

ACT - 3.5 per cent versus 4.2 per cent
